  Laptops for Students at JTC

We understand the importance of students being able to access the most up-to-date technology to enhance learning. We are pleased to announce that in 2012 all Years 11 and 12 students who meet the Minimum Entry Requirements for four or more stage 2 or 3 ATAR courses will be provided with personal laptops.

In addition, all students who are accepted into the Year 10 Academic Extension Program will have access to personal laptops to assist them with their studies.

This is an exciting initiative and we are proud to be able to support our students by providing them with state of the art technology throughout their final years of schooling.

John Tonkin College (JTC) is part of the Peel Education and Training (PET) Campus sharing the Peel Campuses of Challenger Institute of Technology and Murdoch University and the Tindale campus, adjacent to North Mandurah Primary School. JTC is the provider of public education educational services for students completing secondary studies in Mandurah. Being a split site which is collocated with tertiary providers makes the college unique and provides access to industry standard factiltiies that are not available in a traditional school environment.

The College is delivering an extensive range of educational programs to approximately 900 students. It addresses the needs of the full range of students and their post secondary aspirations including a comprehensive list of WACE, Courses of Study, WSA subjects, Vocational Education and Training courses, and bridging courses to assist in the development of students and enhance graduation prospects. Enterprise education is growing as a strategy to motivate students and improve retention. The flexibility in the delivery of educational programs is increased by offering them over an extended day (Monday, Tuesday, & Wednesday 8:25am -5:00pm; Thursday & Friday 8:25am -3:00pm)

JTC is sensitive to the needs of tertiary institutions, commerce and industry and to provide assistance for further study or training for careers in these sectors. This is being achieved through productive partnerships with both community and tertiary organizations.

JTC shares some facilities with Murdoch University and Challenger Institute of Technology, including the Library (managed by JTC), the Workshops(managed by Challenger Institute of Technology) and the Cafeteria.

The design of JTC has recognised the need for flexibility in the use of the sites and the buildings as the needs of students and the community change. It also takes into account the changes in information and Communications Technology over recent years and the expectation that such changes will continue into the future. For these reasons JTC will be well placed to remain at the leading edge of education innovation in the future.
